Who are we hiring:
The Local One Head Stagehand oversees and coordinates all stage related matters inclusive of rigging, stage automation, mechanical, and fly needs of all theatrical productions, special events and concerts at the Beacon Theatre. This includes managing scheduling, budgeting, logistical coordination and event supervision as required to ensure superior customer service and client satisfaction.
What will you do:
- Provide the highest example of customer service for our employees and clients.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff. Assigns and instructs employees in the details of work. Observes performance and encourages improvement.
- Highly responsive to emergencies in a fast paced, time sensitive environment
- Ensures productivity, performance, and adherence to company policies and standards are followed
- Assist MSG Theatre event production managers with the advance, execution and wrap up of theatre events. This includes concerts, family shows and theatrical productions.
- Schedules and oversees payroll for large crews.
- Oversees and coordinates, in association with the Head Audio Stagehand, on all matters related Sphere Immersive Sound PA OF all theatrical productions, special events and concerts at the Beacon Theatre.
- Maintenance of all rigging equipment related to the grid, fly floor and loading bridge.
- Knowledge and operation for the use of chain motors.
- Overseeing rigging & safety checks as required, including all front of house rigging equipment over the audience.
- Works alongside production to hang, inspect, and maintain, all flying rigs used for aerial effects.
- Oversees and coordinates building and assembly of all sets, platforms, risers, and scenic walls.
- Responsible for house soft goods maintenance, including inspection for safety issues and treatment of house goods with FDNY certified flameproof material.
- Responsible for line set inventory and maintenance of house line sets, backdrops, scenic pieces, etc.
- Oversees operating budget and maintenance schedule, including purchasing for the department and inventory control.
- Supervise Local One Beacon Stagehands
What do you need to succeed:
- Must have 10-15 years of supervisory experience in a high volume, fast paced production or theater environment.
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage assets.
- Ability to always present a clean, safe work environment for employees and clients.
- Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to resolve conflicts effectively.
- Computer proficiency with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Workforce, and MSG Purchasing system.
- Must have the ability to work independently when necessary and use sound business judgment.
- Ability to present an uplifting personality while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and business ethics.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Demonstrates integrity, tact, fairness, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and principles while ensuring the upmost consistency.
- Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
- Maintain a working relationship with the Beacon Theatre Management team.
- Demonstrated experience coaching, training, and the ability to motivate a team is required.
- Flexibility and adaptability as it relates to different employee skill levels and working styles is essential.
- Must be detail oriented and extremely organized with the ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Rigging certification preferred.
- OSHA safety certification preferred.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, CAD drawings, and rigging plots.
Special Requirement?
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift, climb, and carry equipment associated with the set-up and breakdown of shows
- Ability to access rigging grid and catwalks, which may be enclosed in tight, confined spaces
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays.
